Triple-stapled quadrilateral anastomosis: a new technique for creation of an esophagogastric anastomosis

Abstract: BackgroundEsophagogastric anastomosis performed after esophagectomy is technically complex and often the source of postoperative complications. The best technique for this anastomosis remains a matter of debate. We describe a new all-stapled side-to-side anastomosis, which we refer to as triple-stapled quadrilateral anastomosis (TRIQ), that can be performed after minimally invasive surgery, and we report results of a retrospective evaluation of postoperative outcomes among the 60 patients in whom this anastomo… Show more

“…Anastomotic fistula is related to the embedding material, and Neoveil ® has been shown to be superior to the omentum majus in preventing anastomotic fistula. Pedicled omentum majus is an excellent embedding material, is derived from the patient, and has no possibility of rejection (40,41). However, the omentum majus is prone to fat liquification, and it is difficult for the incision to heal in the liquid, which also increases the risk of anastomotic infection and fistula (42).…”

“…Anastomotic stenosis occurred to a signi cantly lower extent in the modi ed Collard group, and the period between esophagectomy and initial dilatation was signi cantly shorter in the hand-sewn anastomosis group (24). Similarly, Ishibashi et al performed triple-stapled quadrilateral anastomosis to create esophagogastric anastomosis and reported no signi cant anastomotic leakage and stricture (25).…”
