Triterpenoid saponins from the roots ofAcanthophyllum gypsophiloidesRegel

Abstract: SummaryTwo new triterpenoid saponins 1 and 2 were isolated from the methanol extract of the roots of Acanthophyllum gypsophiloides Regel. These saponins have quillaic acid or gypsogenin moieties as an aglycon, and both bear similar sets of two oligosaccharide chains, which are 3-O-linked to the triterpenoid part trisaccharide α-L-Arap-(1→3)-[α-D-Galp-(1→2)]-β-D-GlcpA and pentasaccharide β-D-Xylp-(1→3)-β-D-Xylp-(1→3)-α-L-Rhap-(1→2)-[β-D-Quip-(1→4)]-β-D-Fucp connected through an ester linkage to C-28. The struct… Show more

“…Therefore, in this study, we assessed its in vitro hemolytic activity against mice erythrocytes to determine a safe dose for use in our vaccine formulations. A published protocol was followed [ 43 ] with few modifications. Briefly, 2 mL of blood from two adult CO 2 -euthanized mice was collected via cardiac puncture into a 15 mL centrifuge tube containing 80 µL, 6.32 USP units per mL, of BD sodium heparin and mixed gently with 5 mL PBS.…”

“…The rare TSR species has pharmacological value as an expectorant, diuretic and a laxative natural remedy and technical application as an effective foaming agent and emulsifier [3]. TSR contains a complex of triterpene saponins of the oleanolic series, from which saponins-derivatives of gypsogenin and quillic acid-have been isolated [4,5]. They exhibit immunostimulant and antiviral properties [6].…”
