“…nobilis ), thus providing support to coastal food-web in Sirinhaém. The importance of the benthic community for the trophic functioning of the coastal zone, specifically crustaceans, has been reported in other ecosystems affected by bottom trawl fishing, for example, in southeast Brazil [ 116 – 120 ], and in other parts of the world, such as Australia [ 121 ], Irish Sea [ 24 ] and North Sea [ 122 ]. The presence of large mud banks in these coastal areas, which usually favors large occurrences of benthic invertebrates, such as worms and crustaceans, explains this huge importance.…”

“…Five species, three of shrimp (Rimapenaeus similis, Xiphopenaeus kroyeri, and Farfantepenaeus subtilis) and two of portunid crabs (A. rufiremus and Callinectes ornatus), contributed more than half (66.70% of the individuals) of all the bycatch. In general, portunids are predators (Mantelatto & Christofoletti 2001, Reigada & Negreiros-Fransozo 2001, while shrimp are detritivores and omnivores (Willems et al 2016), and both are highly generalist (Eddy et al 2017). These species' predominance is consistent with the paradigm of generalists' dominance in disturbed environments (Ramsay et al 1998).…”
