Troponin T Measurement Can Predict Persistent Left Ventricular Dysfunction in Peripartum Cardiomyopathy

Abstract: Passive-active immunoprophylaxis with hepatitis B immunoglobulin (HBIG) and hepatitis B vaccine provides a high level of protection against vertical transmission of hepatitis B virus (HBV). Nevertheless, 1 in 10 children of HBV carriers have chronic hepatitis B early in their lives despite immunoprophylaxis because they were infected in utero. This study of 469 pregnant women testing positive for hepatitis B surface antigen (HbsAg) was conducted to learn whether giving HBIG to HBV carriers in the third trimest… Show more

“…Logistic regression analysis of NYHA FC, SBP, EDD, ESD, EF, CRP, IL6, and TNF-a revealed that only the baseline plasma levels of IL-6, TNF-a, and NYHA FC (OR = 2.67, CI 95 %, 1.04-6.83) were independent predictors of death (Table 5). Recovery of systolic function occurs in roughly half of affected women and usually occurs within 6 months of symptom onset [16]. A rapid recovery of EF is often seen in patients after initial diagnosis and dieresis [17].…”

“…94 In a prospective multi-centre study of 106 patients with newly diagnosed PPCM surviving over 6 months 31% patients had elevated TnT levels which negatively correlated with left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) at follow-up. 95 Preeclamptic pregnant women have been reported to have elevated TnI levels. 96 Although preeclampsia is associated with a higher incidence of PPCM no causal association has been shown.…”
