Troposphere Water Vapour Tomography: A Horizontal Parameterised Approach

Abstract: Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) troposphere tomography has become one of the most cost-effective means to obtain three-dimensional (3-d) image of the tropospheric water vapour field. Traditional methods divide the tomography area into a number of 3-d voxels and assume that the water vapour density at any voxel is a constant during the given period. However, such behaviour breaks the spatial continuity of water vapour density in a horizontal direction and the number of unknown parameters needing to be… Show more

“…In this work, the normal height system is used. The specific steps to convert normal height from geopotential height to quasi-geoid height were presented in our previous study [27]. An empirical correction formula of PWV is also used herein to unify the PWV values of the collocated stations at different heights…”

“…Presently, it is common to divide the vertical stratification methods utilized in most studies into two categories: uniform stratification with constant vertical resolution [14,[17][18][19] and non-uniform stratification with different vertical resolutions [15,16,[20][21][22][23]. As an equal height interval is adopted in the vertical direction, uniform stratification can conveniently discretize the tomographic area into regular voxels.…”

“…The first function-based tropospheric tomography studies of water vapor have been performed by Zhao et al (2018b). He used the fix-degree polynomial function for different vertical layers.…”
