Both experimental studies (e.g., Kahn & Quinn, 1970) and applied research (Brook, 1973; Daghestani, Barglow, Hilker, & Asma, 1976; Dohrenwend & Dohrenwend, 1974; Doran, 1975; Erickson, Edwards, & Gunderson, 1973; Erickson, Pugh, & Gunderson, 1972; and Margolis, Kroes, & Quinn, 1974) suggest that psychological problems of employees can be precipitated by job-related stressors and by personal, familial, and financial difficulties.
