Trwałe następstwa wysiękowego zapalenia ucha w wieku dziecięcym

Abstract: As the percentage of recurrences after tympanostomy tubes insertion are not uncommon prolonged period of follow up of those children is recommended. Although ventilation tubes have proven very effective in improving hearing in short term, they have not proven effective in preventing long-term sequelae of tympanic membrane and some degree of hearing loss. The decision about surgical treatment should be taken cautiously taking into account the chance of spontaneous resolution.

“…Some studies recommend that clinicians insert a ventilation tube if they obtained a hearing test and serous otitis media was permanent for longer than 3 months or a significant hearing loss was detected, structural problems of the tympanic membrane or middle ear were suspected or a child was at increased risk for speech, language, or learning problems from chronic OME because of baseline sensory, physical, cognitive, or behavioral factors ,ventilation tube insertion. 17 - 22 A significant reduction was observed in the number of physician visits associated with the ear and the use of antibiotics for middle ear infections in our study, which was consistent with the results obtained in the study of Mui et al 9 According to recent studies, four spectrums of problems, including physical, hearing, speech and behavior, make up the most important problems in patients with chronic middle ear diseases. 10 , 16 In this study, we essentially focused on evaluating the problems.…”

“…An increasing number of studies, including the previous mentioned Cochrane report [ 6 ], have concluded that there is little or no long-term hearing effect of VT surgery [ 42 , 43 ]. This challenges the need for all children to be controlled by an otolaryngologist, i.e.…”
