Tryonia, a new taenitidoid fern genus segregated from Jamesonia and Eriosorus (Pteridaceae)

Abstract: The Neotropical fern genera Eriosorus and Jamesonia have long been thought of as close relatives. Molecular phylogenetic studies have confirmed this notion but have also revealed that neither genus is monophyletic with respect to the other. As a result, all known species of Eriosorus were recently subsumed under the older generic name Jamesonia. Here, through an analysis of a four-gene plastid dataset, we show that several species traditionally treated in Eriosorus are in fact more closely related to other tae… Show more

“…(2014) was followed, except that the annealing temperature was reduced to 45°C. Visualization and cleanup of PCR products, as well as sequencing, followed previously published protocols (Schuettpelz & al., 2006;Schuettpelz & Pryer, 2007;Cochran & al., 2014). For some individuals, sequences were already published and a total of 110 sequences were thus simply downloaded from GenBank.…”

“…For the larger region, the primers (Table 1) and amplification protocol of Schuettpelz & al. (2006) were utilized, whereas for the smaller region, the primers (Table 1) (Table 1), but the amplification protocol of Cochran & al. (2014) was followed.…”

“…Estudios moleculares realizados por Cochran, Prado & Schuettpelz (2014), también sirvieron para descubrir que un clado del grupo Eriosorus y Jamesonia estaba más relacionado a otros géneros taenitoides como: Austrogramme E. Fourn., Pterozonium Fée, Syngramma J.…”
