“…First, we wanted to examine whether CS exposure could induce Crohn’s disease-like illness. Therefore, we exposed the mice to CS as described in a previous study ( 18 ) and evaluated the impact of CS exposure in the bowel. The colon length was significantly shorter (air group: 77.1 ± 2.3 mm vs. CS group: 56.8 ± 0.8 mm, Figure 1 A) and the body weight was markedly reduced (Figure 1 B) by CS exposure after 4 weeks of CS exposure.…”

“…This study was performed using previously described experimental procedures, which expose mice to mainstream of CS ( 17 , 18 ). The mice were exposed to the smoke from five consecutive non-filtered cigarettes (Reference 3R4F without filter; University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY, USA) four times a day, 6 days per week, using a smoking apparatus described by previously ( 18 ). Female C57BL/6J WT, T-bet −/− , IFN-γ −/− , and WT EGFP mice were exposed to CS for 4 weeks, and CD4 + and CD8 + depletion, immune cell profiling in lamina propria (LP), hemoccult test and A4B7 + cell analysis studies were performed under 2 week CS exposure.…”

“…Preliminary HPLC-ESI-MS analysis let expect that stichoneurine derivatives with stemoninine (21) as major component together with croomine (1) were responsible for the anti-inflammatory effect (Lim et al 2015). In a following study it was shown that tuberostemonine N (56) significantly inhibited the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and decreased alveoli size in lung tissue (Jung et al 2016). A reduction of LPS-induced NO was also observed with a methanolic root extract of S. tuberosa in murine BV2 microglia cells.…”

“…Following the first report on multidrug resistance properties of an ethanolic extract of Stemona aphylla (Limtrakul et al 2007), a series of studies evaluated the synergistic growth inhibitory effect of Stemona alkaloids with cancer chemotherapeutic agents (Chanmahasathien et al 2011a, b;Umsumarng et al 2013Umsumarng et al , 2015Umsumarng et al , 2017Umsumarng et al , 2018. Furthermore, their anti- inflammatory activity was investigated and regarded as an inhibition of the expression of diverse inflammatory mediators (Hosoya et al 2011;Lim et al 2015;Jung et al 2016;Lee et al 2016;Wu et al 2018). The present review also reports on the nematicidal activity (Huang et al 2016;Chen et al 2018) and other miscellaneous properties as well as on the pharmacokinetics of that class of alkaloids (Dong et al 2012;Sun et al 2012;Han et al 2016).…”
