Tumor Suppressor miRNA-204-5p Regulates Growth, Metastasis, and Immune Microenvironment Remodeling in Breast Cancer

Abstract: Various miRNAs play critical roles in the development and progression of solid tumors. In this study, we describe the role of miR-204-5p in limiting growth and progression of breast cancer. In breast cancer tissues, miR-204-5p was significantly downregulated compared with normal breast tissues, and its expression levels were associated with increased survival outcome in patients with breast cancer. Overexpression of miR-204-5p inhibited viability, proliferation, and migration capacity in human and murine breas… Show more

“…MiR-204-5p has been reported to be down-regulated in several types of cancers such as breast cancer, glioma and prostate cancer, and miR-204-5p inhibition contributes to the progression of cancer cell malignant properties [27][28][29]. In this study, miR-204-5p was confirmed to be target of SNHG14.…”

“…Recent extensive studies have demonstrated that miR-204-5p exerts antitumor effects by controlling cell proliferation, apoptosis, metastasis, invasion, angiogenesis and chemotherapeutic sensitivity [22][23][24][25][26]. Zhang, B et al study uncovered that miR-204-5p expression was negatively related to the tumor TNM stage in GC [17].…”

“…Higher expression levels of miR-130a can differentiate tumors from normal samples; also, higher expression levels of miR-130a can discriminate the molecular subtypes of breast cancer in a recent study [44]. miR-204-5p overexpression has a significant role in alteration in tumor metastasis and immune cell reprogramming by PI3K/Akt signaling in mouse breast cancer models [45]. miR-217 could suppress TNBC cell growth, migration, and invasion by downregulating the KLF5 expression [46].…”
