matched case (Fig. 4) at the same fiber separation the power coupling efficency is lower.In the last study, the power variation as a function of the fiber separation in the multimode-to-multimode fiber design is investigated for the red LED and laser sources. As can be seen in Figure 6, since the launching power for the laser is considerably higher than that of the LED thus the output power for the laser is much higher. For the LED light, the power decreases from 496 to 61 nW for the gap range of 0.1-5 mm. For the laser illumination, the output power decreases from the 2036 to 110 nW for the same range. For both light sources, the related output powers are decreased by increasing the axial fiber separation. As can be noted in Figure 6, the sensitivity, in particular for the laser illumination, is higher for the range of 0.1-5-mm displacement, which can be a good range for the effective sensing operation based on the fiberto-fiber principle.
