Tunable Terahertz Graphene-Based Absorber Design Method Based on a Circuit Model Approach

Abstract: In this paper, a simple, fast, and novel method for designing a tunable terahertz absorber with arbitrary central frequency and desired fractional bandwidth is presented. The proposed absorber consists of a single layer periodic array of graphene ribbons (PAGRs), placed a quarter wavelength from a metallic ground, separated by a dielectric material. An analytical circuit model of the terahertz absorber is used to obtain analytical expressions for the input impedance of the proposed device. Then, a simple expre… Show more

“…The use of graphene in THz devices has been greatly interesting. In line with this, varieties of graphene-based THz absorbers have been reported in the literature [48][49][50]. In this communication, we investigate certain grapheneembedded periodic structures in respect of the transmission properties.…”

“…The laser light is assumed to be a plane wave with linear polarization along the x-direction. The resonance frequency of the designed structure can be obtained using the circuit model and absorption spectra of graphene structures in THz spectra [38]- [40], [61], [62]. Given that there is a maximum excitation of plasmons at the absorption peak, hence the field intensity of plasmons is maximized at the resonance frequency.…”

“…In comparison with like Salisbury and Jaumann metamaterial absorbers are an alternative that are used in fifthgeneration fighter plane stealth to improve the isolation of MIMO antenna, imaging, sensing, Radar cross-section and electromagnetic interference reduction [8][9]. Moreover, multiband absorbers that are polarization as well as incident wave insensitive have been designed and validated with a thickness lower than the conventional absorbers having absorptivity above 90% for S, and X-band applications [10][11]. In this paper, an ultra-thin microwave absorber is designed that works at three frequency bands i.e.…”
