Tuned Sloshing Damper in Response Control of Tall Building Structure

Abstract: The paucity of space and requirements of building infrastructure has driven us to explore for taller building systems. Also a large number of construction materials has emerged and are being used extensively in buildings. The usage of light weight high strength materials reduces the space requirement and also becomes economical. However, such structures have structurally become susceptible to the lateral loading generated due to wind or earthquake. Attempts are made to control the response of tall building sys… Show more

“…Zhang et al, 2016), the term TLD has implied the sloshing damper possibly because the other varieties gained ground much later. The term TSD has been used by a much lesser number of researchers (Bhattacharyya, 2016;Fujii et al, 1990;Kareem, 1990;Kwon and Kareem, 2020;Love et al, 2020;Modi and Munshi, 1998;Nakagaki et al, 1990). In this paper, of course, the term TLD refers to the wide gamut of tuned dampers that employ liquid, and, thus, the sloshing damper is referred to as the TSD.…”

“…Here, it is pertinent to mention that since the early days of development of the TLD, in most literature (Chang and Gu, 1999; Das and Choudhury, 2017; Fujino et al, 1988; Halabian and Torki, 2011; Kaneko and Mizota, 2000; Konar and Ghosh, 2021c; McNamara et al, 2021; Patil and Singh, 2016; Ruiz et al, 2016; Shang and Zhao, 2008; Sun et al, 1992; Tait, 2008; Tait et al, 2004; Wakahara et al, 1994; Zhang et al, 2016), the term TLD has implied the sloshing damper possibly because the other varieties gained ground much later.
