Tuning the LUMO levels of non-fullerene acceptorsviaextension of π-conjugated cores for organic solar cells

Abstract: The extended π-conjugated cores in the order of BT-4F, DTBT-4F and BTST-4F in non-fused-ring electron acceptors increased the LUMO levels in the extended order.

“…Despite the increase in performance with the thermal treatment, the performance of Y6‐1Napht:PM6 and Y6‐1Pery:PM6 solar cells is still lower than that of Y6:PM6 due to a significantly lower J SC , while the V oc of Y6‐1Napht:PM6 and Y6‐1Pery:PM6 is around 0.1 V higher than that of Y6:PM6 , as expected due to its higher‐lying LUMO levels compared to the LUMO of Y6 . Thus, our approach to extended acceptor core in A–DnormalA$A^{&aposx;}$D–A FREAs leads to a similar photovoltaic result than previous study reports, [ 47 ] where the V oc is increased and limited J SC .…”

“…18,19 Ternary OPVs can be classified as donor : acceptor : acceptor (D : A : A) and donor : donor : acceptor (D : D : A) types. Many successful D : A : A-type ternary devices have been developed including those incorporating PC 71 BM, 20 IT-4F, 21 IDIC, 22 and other small molecule/polymer acceptors as the guest acceptors, 23–40 to improve upon the performance of state-of-the-art PM6:Y6 devices (average PCE: 15.5%) with PCEs breaking through the 16% level. For D : A : A-type ternary devices, the Yan group designed and synthesized NFA N3 (Fig.…”
