Tuning the Mechanical and Adsorption Properties of Silica with Graphene Oxide

Abstract: Silica and graphene oxide (GO) were synthesized by modified Stöber and Hummer’s methods, respectively. Silica/GO composite powders of different compositions were obtained by introduction of GO sheets in between silica particles through a hydrothermal synthesis. Composites were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction analysis, and scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Density measurements were performed with a pycnometer and chemical analyses of powders were performe… Show more

“…Figure c shows the XRD patterns of the HCS, where sulfur and HC served as the reference. A broad diffraction peak is observed in the case of HC because of the presence of amorphous nature of carbon and silica. , HCSs show sharp diffraction peaks of sulfur signifying that sulfur is successfully combined into the carbon environment during the melt diffusion method. The crystalline phases are well matched with the orthorhombic sulfur (JCPDS 00-008-0247).…”

“…With regard to f-Si 3 N 4 @GO hybrids (Fig. 4d), the characteristic diffraction peaks of GO and Si 3 N 4 exist in curves, which reveals the presence of GO in the silicon nitride matrix [46]. A hump at 10.38 distinctly disappears in the survey XRD pattern of f-Si 3 N 4 @RGO (Fig.…”

“…As noted above, GO is often processed in aqueous dispersion, and therefore in practical applications its rheology is of vital importance ( Table S1 ). Although the role of GO concentration is widely studied [ 2 , 3 , 23 , 24 , 26 , 27 , 33 , 34 , 35 , 36 ], the effect of the degree of oxidation of GO [ 37 ], the aspect ratio [ 22 , 38 ] and the temperature [ 27 ] on the rheological behavior has been also recognized by several groups. Since the graphite precursor and the exfoliation method affect the properties of GO [ 7 , 8 , 12 , 19 , 27 ], they could also influence the rheology of GO dispersion.…”
