Tuning the sulfur–heterometal interaction in organolead(IV) complexes of [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4]

Abstract: Reactions of [Pt 2 (l-S) 2 (PPh 3 ) 4 ] with Ph 3 PbCl, Ph 2 PbI 2 , Ph 2 PbBr 2 and Me 3 PbOAc result in the formation of bright yellow to orange solutions containing the cations [Pt 2 (l-S) 2 (PPh 3 ) 4 PbR 3 ] + (R 3 = Ph 3 , Ph 2 I, Ph 2 Br, Me 3 ) isolated as PF 6 À or BPh 4 À salts. In the case of the Me 3 Pb and Et 3 Pb systems, a prolonged reaction time results in formation of the alkylated species [Pt 2 (l-S)(l-SR)(PPh 3 ) 4 ] + (R = Me, Et). X-ray structure determinations on [Pt 2 (l-S) 2 (PPh 3 ) 4 … Show more

“…The use of other methyl halides is also not convenient since MeCl and MeBr are gases under ambient conditions. Me 3 PbO 2 CCH 3 has been shown to convert [Pt 2 (m-S) 2 (PPh 3 ) 4 ] to [Pt 2 (m-S) (m-SMe)(PPh 3 ) 4 ] þ [10], but the high toxicity of organolead compounds makes this…”

“…[15,16,17] With the exception of the very hardest metals, 1 acts as a very general metalloligand towards a diverse range of metal centres. [18] While a number of complexes of [Pt 2 (-S) 2 (PPh 3 ) 4 ] with main group metal centres are known [19], such as lead [20], indium and gallium [21] and bismuth [22,23,24], organometallic derivatives are limited to organo-tin [25] and organo-lead [26] compounds. In this paper we report our studies on thallium(III) derivatives, including organometallics.…”
