Turbine Flowmeter Performance Model

Abstract: A theoretical model of a turbine meter operating in the high Reynolds number regime has been formulated to study the effects of retarding torques, inlet velocity profile, blade interference effects, meter geometry, and other factors. A computer program predicts actual rotor speed by numerical integration of the lift and drag forces on the rotor blade. Numerical sample calculations indicated substantial effects due to velocity profile and blade interference. Retarding torques were relatively unimportant in the … Show more

“…Shafer [1] and Thompson [2] systematically studied sensor characteristics of the traditional water flowmeter mechanics by analysis and experiments very early. Until now, the related research has never been stopped and mainly concentrate on the following aspects: Changes of the sensor characteristics under different fluid and application conditions, such as different viscous liquids [3] and multiphase fluid [4].…”

“…By the optimization and improvement of further research, the structure of the meter is formed, and the meter gets wide application in many fields. Since the last few years from 1950's to now, many research [2][3][4][5][6] on the performance curve of turbine flowmeter are implemented, and several mathematical models about turbine flowmeter have been proposed, in which the Thompson's airfoil theory [2] is approved by many later researchers. But some simplifications of important factors are presumed during the modeling process because of the complexity of the fluid motion in meter chamber.…”
