Satellite‐based navigation systems have provided a tremendous enhancement during the last decade. Global Positioning System leads the alternative systems not only in the global case but also in regional ones. Regional positioning systems offer independent, indigenously developed satellite navigation systems operating at various orbits and slots. Because geostationary satellites have limited coverage areas compared with medium earth orbit Global Navigation Satellite System satellites, they offer a lack of complexity and reduced operational costs. In this study, a conceptual regional positioning system design using Turksat geostationary communications satellites is proposed and simulated positioning accuracy merits are presented.
