“…It is important to note that no case of vitamin D intoxication was observed in this study, demonstrating that doses equivalent to 2000 U per day are safe in adolescents. Studies conducted by Zeghoud et al (1995), Oliveri et al (1996) and Tau et al (2007) from France and Argentina with administration of 100 000 U vitamin D 3 single dose, 150 000 U vitamin D 2 single dose and 100 000 U vitamin D 3 , every 3 months, respectively, during fall and winter revealed that treated groups had higher levels of 25(OH)D in comparison with untreated groups. In our study, hypovitaminosis D was more pronounced in girls in comparison with boys, and the values in both sexes were lower than those reported from other countries, such as Lebanon, Argentina and the United States, indicating that the problem has greater dimensions in our country and Iranian females have the deficiency to a greater extent, partly because of the type of covered Islamic clothing that is worn today.…”

“…Another study in ambulatory women from Buenos Aires showed differences in 25(OH)D levels in summer (63 nmol/L) and winter (53 nmol/L) [79]. Neonates and mothers from the southernmost province had lower 25(OH)D than those from Buenos Aires [80], and a proposal for a supplementation scheme for children in that province (twice single doses of 100,000 IU ergocalciferol every 3 months during autumn and winter) resulted in a safe recovery of 25(OH) D levels [81].…”

“…24 Regarding the cause of CKD, patients with FSGS has significantly lower 25(OH)D levels; however, in the multivariate analysis, the cause of CKD was not considered a statistically significant outcome measure. The presence of hypoalbuminemia is typical in patients with CKD secondary to FSGS with persistent nephrotic syndrome, and is also common among children undergoing dialysis because of malnutrition or albumin loss from PD fluid.…”
