Twistors and holography

Abstract: We extend Bousso's notion of a lightsheet -a surface where entropy can be defined in a way so that the entropy bound is satisfied -to more general surfaces. Intuitively, these surfaces may be regarded as deformations of the Bousso choice; in general, these deformations will be timelike and so we refer to them as 'timesheets'. We show that a timesheet corresponds to a section of a certain twistor bundle over a given spacelike two-surface B. We further argue that increasing the entropy flux through a given regio… Show more

“…In order to observe gravitational wave events several times in a year, the goal sensitivity of the current interferometers is not sufficient. In future projects, advanced LIGO (USA) [5], EGO (Europe) [6] and LCGT (Japan, our project) [7,8], the goal sensitivity (h ∼ 3 × 10 −24 Hz −1/2 at 100 Hz) is at least about ten times better than that of the current projects. Since the goal sensitivity of the current projects in the observation band is limited by the thermal noise of the internal modes of the mirrors, reduction of the thermal noise is one of the most important issues in future projects.…”

“…The estimations of figure 3 are made for the LIGO and the Virgo sites. The underground LGCT site [42], with its 100 times lower seismic activity, would be greatly advantageous to depress NN, but no facilities are yet available there. In theory, NN can be calculated from measured seismic data and then subtracted [40].…”
