Two-color flat-top solitons in microresonator-based optical parametric oscillators

Abstract: We studied numerically the generation of the two-color flat-top solitonic pulses, platicons, in the microresonator based doubly resonant optical parametric oscillator. We revealed that if the signs of the group velocity dispersion (GVD) coefficients at interacting harmonics are opposite, platicon excitation is possible via pump amplitude modulation or controllable mode interaction approach. Upon pump frequency scan generation of platicons was observed at positive pump frequency detunings for the normal GVD at … Show more

“…Also, we will indicate where and why the necessary conditions were violated in the known experiments. Lastly, we will compare our findings with the known early predictions for the χ (2) soliton-comb states [40][41][42][43]. As far as possible, the cases considered will be applied to experimentally realizable and important situations.…”

“…The above considered soliton-comb steady states in χ (2) microresonators are not the first predicted ones and known in the literature. To the best of our knowledge, the other known stable dissipative soliton states [40][41][42][43] belong to the periodic ones. Furthermore, they are not self-starting, i.e., not easily accessible.…”

“…While a combination of these assumptions appears as the desirable idealisation in the contexts of the currently available ring microresonators, future studies along these lines are warranted. The relevance of the strong-coupling and dressed states for the microresonator half-harmonic generation arrangement remains to be analysed, including their links to the results on the half-harmonic bright-bright, dark and dark-bright soliton pulses [15,27,31,58,[66][67][68][69].…”
