A required course for students majoring in digital media technology, computer science and technology, or artificial intelligence is “digital image processing technology.” Aviation, medical image processing, intelligent manufacturing, and many more fields may benefit from the knowledge and skills gained in this course. It contains the qualities of “many conceptions, numerous principles, and various formulae,” according to the curriculum. As a result, traditional teaching techniques only pay attention to the explanation of theoretical information, which may easily lead students to create uninteresting feelings; they have abandoned the in-depth investigation and learning of the course material. The PBL approach is used to provide an interest-driven and problem-solving-driven grounded teaching technique that naturally connects the theoretical foundation with real-world examples and problems. We utilize case teaching to assist students better comprehend theoretical information and to teach them how to apply theoretical knowledge to actual difficulties they encounter in their lives. During the course of many semesters of practice, we discovered that our teaching approaches are quite popular with students. The deployment of a teaching style focused on problem-based learning has resulted in significant improvements in students’ learning initiative, practical ability, and innovative ability.

Problem Based Learning(PBL), which uses teamwork study, is a learner-centered teaching model. This pattern can contribute to cultivating self-study ability and improving learning effects during the process of finding and solving problems. Though summarizing the present situation of using the PBL teaching method at different levels of education, the aim of this study is to provide new thinking for the education reform. Compared with the conventional teaching method, PBL has already become a breakthrough in the teaching models. PBL teaching pattern at K12 Education and the Higher Education levels of education is the main topics of the study. The main content of this article is a review about this teaching pattern. In this article, we will start with the background and design process of PBL. Then, we run an extended analysis of PBL used in different levels of education, including preschool education, primary education, and higher education. Previous research show that people behave differently at different ages. Also, the contents of learning are emphasized differently for students at various education stages. Therefore, the specific usage of the PBL teaching method is other in different levels of education. It is significant for improving the teaching to compare PBL and conventional teaching styles and learn from them according to the situations in teaching reform. In the section of the PBL teaching pattern used in different education stages, this paper points out that this review includes the application and evaluation of the PBL teaching model. Furthermore, each level of education has its concrete framework of implementation. Though the PBL teaching pattern can make students learn actively, it is still imperfect in some places. For example, in the concrete implementation process, teachers should improve PBL and build relevant model to the actual courses. With the continuous improvement of PBL teaching patterns, the application will be a broader prospect.

Background: Problem-based learning (PBL) is a student-centered approach to teaching that has been applied in medical and nursing education. The effectiveness of PBL in promoting critical thinking in nursing students has been studied extensively with mixed results. Purpose: The meta-analysis aimed to investigate the impact of PBL interventions on critical thinking skills of nursing students. Methods: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and CINAHL databases were electronically searched. Methodological quality was examined using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale and version 2 of the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. Data were analyzed with 95% confidence intervals based on random-effect models. Results: Nineteen studies involving 1996 nursing students were included in the analysis. The results of the analysis demonstrated greater improvement in critical thinking skills compared with the control group (overall critical thinking scores: standardized mean difference [SMD] = 0.47, 95% CI = 0.33-0.61, P < .01). Conclusions: The meta-analysis indicates that PBL can help nursing students to improve their critical thinking.
