Two Different Pathways of Glomerular Enlargement in Adults with Focal and Segmental Glomerulosclerosis: A Morphometric Study

Abstract: The renal biopsy specimens obtained from 15 adults with focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and 15 adults with minimal change nephrotic syndrome (MCNS) were morphometrically analyzed using light and electron microscopy. Moreover, initial biopsy specimens obtained from 10 adults who were diagnosed as MCNS and developed FSGS, based on repeat biopsy findings (‘MCNS’-FSGS), were also analyzed using electron microscopy. After comparing the actual values between the groups of FSGS and MCNS, the mean glomer… Show more

“…The estimation of renal glomerular volume is a useful technique with clinical, diagnostic and prognostic relevance in several conditions including renal artery stenosis (Marcussen 1991), glomerulosclerosis (Fogo et al 1990 ;Irzyniec et al 1992 ;Cahill et al 1996 ;Perico et al 1996 ;Matsumae et al 1998) and glomerulomegaly (Bertram et al 1998).…”
