Two New Lignan Glycosides from Saussurea laniceps

Abstract: Two new lignan glycosides, lanicepsides A and B (1 and 2), along with the eight known compounds 3 -6, epipinoresinol, syringin, ethyl caffeate, and 5,6,7-trihydroxy-4'-methoxyflavone, including sesquiterpene lactones, lignans, and a flavone, were isolated from the ethanol extract of Saussurea laniceps. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods especially 1D-and 2D-NMR techniques.

“…The 1 H-NMR spectrum (l " Table 1) showed proton signals of two ABX systems of aromatic protons at δ H 6.83, 6.75, 6.70, 6.81, 6.70, and 6.70, two aromatic CH 3 O groups at δ H 3.73 (3H, s) and 3.76 (3H, s), indicating the presence of two trisubstituted benzene rings. Six oxygenated aliphatic protons at δ H 3.44, 3.49 (2H), 3.54, 3.95, and 4.51, together with two aliphatic protons at δ H 2.07 and 2.50 were evidence for the presence of a tetrahydrofuranoid lignan skeleton [8], which was supported by 13 C-NMR analysis. In the 13 C-NMR spectrum, apart from the twelve aromatic and three CH 3 O signals, there were six sp 3 C-atoms, including two oxymethines at δ C 83.3 and 85.7 and two oxymethylenes at δ C 61.5 and 69.1.…”

“…We herein described the isolation and structure elucidation of four new lignans (1)(2)(3)(4) and the evaluation of the cytotoxic activity of all isolated compounds, along with their preliminary structure-activity relationships. Compound 5 was identified as lanicepside A by comparison with the literature [8]. Compound 1 was obtained as a sticky oil and possessed a molecular formula C 21 H 26 O 7 , as revealed from its HR-ESI-MS analysis (m/z 413.1574 [M + Na] + ).…”

“…Among them, approximately 60 were new compounds, and 6 had new carbon skeletons ( Figure 6). In particular, 48 of these compounds showed significant biological activities in a variety of bioassays and provided a scientific foundation for the use of a number of traditional Chinese herbs [103][104][105][106][107][108][109][110][111][112][113][114] .…”
