Two new species of Hedyotis L. (Rubiaceae) from Hainan, China

Abstract: Hedyotis howii and H. interrupta, two new species from China are described and illustrated here. Hedyotis howii is similar to H. hainanensis, but can be distinguished by its tetragonal and sparsely puberulent shoots, obovate or ovoid and slightly 4-ribbed hypanthium, and 5-6 mm long corolla tube. “…Similar to other Hedyotis species described previously ( Wang et al 2018 ; Jiang and Wang 2019 ; Xu and Wang 2021 ; Jiang and Wang 2021 ), the pollen grains of H. longiramulis are dimorphic between long-styled and short-styled flowers, i.e., the pollen of the short-styled flowers is larger than that of the long-styled flowers. This pattern was also found in other Rubiaceae with dimorphic flowers, e.g., Damnacanthus C.F.Gaertn.…”

“…siamense and C. fructicola are cosmopolitan which infect diverse host species and usually cause more severe necrotic lesions than those caused by species in other complexes (Doyle et al, 2013;Jayasinghe et al, 2009). Typical crops infected by these two pathogens include coffee Prihastuti et al, 2009), areca palm tree (Cao et al, 2020), rubber trees , tropical ornamental plants such as Camellia oleifera , Khaya senegalensis , Bauhinia purpurea et al (Jiang et al, 2016).C. arecicola , however, is the first time reported as a pathogen of black pepper anthracnose, which was described as a major pathogen infecting areca tree (Cao et al, 2020).…”
