Two-Phase Extraction Processes, Physicochemical Characteristics, and Autoxidation Inhibition of the Essential Oil Nanoemulsion of Citrus reticulata Blanco (Tangerine) Leaves

Abstract: Combined ultrasound–microwave techniques and pre-enzymatic treatment (hemicellulase and cellulase) enhance essential oil isolation from Citrus reticulata Blanco (tangerine) leaves (CrBL). Subsequently, synergistic effects of modified amorphous octenyl succinic anhydride starch (OSA-MS), almond oil, and high-energy microfluidics were studied in synergy with ultrasound techniques in the production of CrBL essential oil (CrBL-EO) nanoemulsion (CrBL-EONE). GC–MS was used to study the extraction technique. Dynamic … Show more

“…The cells exposed for 7 days to the HT-NE and Free HT, showed a concentration-dependent effect. The HT-NE, like all nanoemulsions, presents a complex composition responsible for bringing more benefits as a differential delivery of drugs and a controlled release, avoiding compound oxidation and other destructive processes [ 52 , 53 ]. For this reason, is expected that its biocompatibility is in lower concentrations than the free compound.…”

“…For measurement of droplet size and ZP, the samples were diluted with distilled water (1:100). We also estimated the ZP values of the formulations by determining the electrophoretic mobility of oil droplets ( Rashed et al, 2022 ). Triplicates were used for the calculation of each parameter.…”

“…The cracking of nanoemulsion occurs when the oil and water are separated and will not recombine. The creaming index (%CI) was calculated as follows [42,43]: %CI = (CC/CT) × 100 where CC = total height of cream layer and CT = total height of nanoemulsion.…”
