Two plastomes of Phyllostachys and reconstruction of phylogenic relationship amongst selected Phyllostachys species using genome skimming

Abstract: The genus Phyllostachys is economically important; however, only a small amount of complete plastid genomes have been reported to date. Here, we characterized two complete chloroplast genomes of Phyllostachys using genome skimming. The chloroplast genomes of Phyllostachys reticulata and Phyllostachys edulis 'Pachyloen' were 136,689 bp and 139,678 bp in length, respectively, and their GC contents were 38.8% and 38.9%, respectively. The sequences of each species contained 132 unique genes, including 39 tRNA, eig… Show more

“…It has been reported that the complete chloroplast genome of Phyllostachys genus has Phyllostachys edulis cultivar pachyloen, Phyllostachys edulis, Phyllostachys nigra var. henonis, Phyllostachys reticulata and Phyllostachys sulphurea (Zhang et al 2011;Wu and Ge 2012;Cao and Gao 2016;Huang et al 2020). In the present study, we reported the complete cp genome sequence of P. heteroclada f. solida based on Illumina pair-end data for the first time.…”

“…The thickness of the culm wall is one of the remarkable characteristics of the different species of bamboo plants, which directly affects their use. For example, bamboo with significantly thickened culm walls, such as Phyllostachys edulis 'Pachyloen', can be used as wood [4]. Therefore, the growth process and regulatory mechanisms of bamboo culm wall thickening are being continuously explored.…”
