Multiple-port microlasers can be used to driver several optical elements as the light or signal sources in photonic integrated circuits through optical interconnection. Using simple planar technique process, four-port square-resonator microlasers are proposed and fabricated by directly four coupled waveguides at vertices. Continuous wave lasing is realized at room temperature with a threshold current of 65 mA for GaInAsP/InP square microlaser with a side length of 15 μm and the width of coupled waveguides 1.5 μm. The mode Q-factors of 6.9×10 3 and 1.3×10 4 are estimated near the threshold at the mode wavelengths of 1521.2 and 1524.2 nm. In addition, the mode characteristics of four-port square-resonator are investigated by FDTD simulation.
