Twofold Interpenetrated Cationic Metal–Organic Framework with Hydrophobic Channels for Effectively Trapping Toxic Oxo-Anions

Abstract: Sequestration of toxic oxo-anions (such as 99 TcO 4 − and ClO 4 − ) from wastewater has received constant attention due to the existing serious threat to public health and the sustainability of the environment. In view of the low energy of hydration of TcO 4 − and ClO 4 − , cationic metal−organic framework (MOF) materials with the hydrophobic microenvironment are preferred in the selection of sorbents. Herein, a twofold interpenetrated cationic MOF (ZJU-X15) with double-helical chains was constructed by tetrak… Show more

“…Herein we present a new versatile platform of positively charged structures derived from tetra-(4-pyridylphenyl)ethylene 1,1,2,2-tetrakis(4-(pyridin-4-yl)phenyl)ethene (TPPE) that exhibits AIE effect upon aggregation. [24][25][26][27][28] They present a propeller-like structure formed by four phenyl groups moving freely in the monomeric state. The hydrophilic/ hydrophobic balance governing the AIE effect is nely tuned by the length of alkyl chain and the counterion: on one hand, the hydrophilicity is introduced by the positively charged pyridinium moieties that increase the solubility in aqueous media.…”
