“…[Figures 8–10] These findings are in accordance with the results obtained in studies conducted by Bridges R et al .,[8] Kiran M et al .,[9] Guglielmo Campus et al .,[10] Mattout C et al .,[11] and Patricia A.A. O’Connell et al .,[12] These reductions in the scores can be attributed to scaling and root planning accompanied by diminution of inflammatory infiltrate and laying down of new collagen. [9]…”

“…The NPASES I used a multistage, stratified sampling of 1,093 men and 1,051 women that represented the total civilian, non‐institutionalized population in France ranging from 35 to 65 years of age. Detailed information on NPASES I can be found in previously published articles 16‐18 . Briefly, the sampling technique adopted in light of the study objectives was that of site quotas, a non‐probabilistic method based on a Bayesian model.…”

“…The weighted κ value was based on clinical attachment loss of individual sites in 10 patients. The agreement at the end of the training phase, which was calculated on the average of all pairwise comparisons among examiners for a six‐grade index, 17‐19,21‐25 was 0.75. Each regional officer conducted on the 24 sites a similar training of calibration among the local dental examiners during the first 2 weeks of the clinical data‐harvesting program in line with the calibration document and objectives.…”

“…The relative contribution of these mechanisms to the increased susceptibility for chronic periodontitis and rapid disease progression in diabetic patients is unknown. However, regardless of dental plaque index, gingivitis is more prevalent in patients with DM than in healthy individuals suggesting a direct impact of DM on the local immune response to the bacterial biofilm [57][58][59][60]. It is well documented that DM, particularly when uncontrolled, leads to impairment of PMN adherence, chemotaxis, and pathogen clearance [61,62].…”
