U-rich Pyrochlore from Sevathur Carbonatites, Tamil Nadu

Abstract: In Sevathur pyrochlore occurs mainly in rauhaugite. All analysed pyrochlore grains are rich in UO2. Majority of pyrochlores show alteration to various degrees and maximum alteration is noticed in ones collected from the weathered soil around carbonatite outcrops. There is significant leaching of Ca and Na leading to A-site vacancy and gain in Ba (5 to 7%) and Sr. UO2 content, though show variation is present in all analysed grains. Elements like U and Th can be incorporated in mineral structures showing alpha … Show more

“…Thus, the earliest U-Th pyrochlore lacked A-site filling and fluorine. According to their characteristics, they are similar to pyrochlores from ankerite carbonatites of some Indian complexes [58][59][60]. The studied fluorcalciopyrochlore is compositionally identical to magmatic carbonatites.…”

“…These anomalous areas may lead to the proximity of uranium ore and act as an indirect indicator to locate where it comes from which may further helpful to plan the detailed survey for uranium exploration. Further, it assumes significance in suggesting that there may be other uranium enriched zone in groundwater where similar settings located along the northern extension of the study area [7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14].…”
