“…Additionally, authigenic carbonates are amenable to uranium (U)-series dating techniques, and can provide key information on the timing and duration of fluid venting at each seep (Teichert et al, 2003;Bayon et al, 2009;Liebetrau et al, 2014). The isotopic composition of shells from chemosynthetic bivalves living close to fluid vents represents an important archive of the nature and variability of the venting.…”

“…Such homogeneity is not at all surprising once we consider the overall reduced variability of cold seepage at the GBPF when compared to larger and heterogenous seep sites as those observable elsewhere in the ocean (Olu et al, 1997;Sibuet and Olu-Le Roy, 2002;Olu-Le Roy et al, 2007;Cordes et al, 2010), or even in the Mediterranean itself (OluLe Roy et al, 2004). Such variability often reflects primarily variations in the fluid regimes (Teichert et al, 2003). Nevertheless, minor faunal differences are equally observable at the GBPF such as, for example, the comparable rarity of the large chemosymbiotic clam L. kazani or of the large vestimentiferan Lamellibrachia which are not recorded thus far from more than two pockmarks.…”

“…Recently, chronology combined with mineralogy, petrology, stable isotopes, and trace element geochemistry have been applied to shed light on the evolution of seep activity (Aharon et al, 1997;Bayon et al, 2009a,b;Feng et al, 2010b;Kutterolf et al, 2008;Liebetrau et al, 2010;Teichert et al, 2003;Watanabe et al, 2008). For example, U/Th ages of seep carbonates from Hydrate Ridge show that the occurrence of seep carbonate appears to have been correlated with the sea level lowstand during Pleistocene glaciale interglacial cycles (Teichert et al, 2003).…”

“…For example, U/Th ages of seep carbonates from Hydrate Ridge show that the occurrence of seep carbonate appears to have been correlated with the sea level lowstand during Pleistocene glaciale interglacial cycles (Teichert et al, 2003). Seeps have been particularly active during the last glaciation in the GOM and Sea of Japan (Feng et al, 2010b;Kutterolf et al, 2008;Watanabe et al, 2008).…”
