Ultra-high performance concrete is a new generation of concrete that supersedes traditional concrete. The new material is self-consolidated, and the present research focuses on the impact resistance of UHPC under impact loading. Four specimens in the form of simply supported beams with identical dimensions and steel reinforcement ratios are tested under low-velocity impact loading. The specimens are 140 mm in diameter and 2000 mm in length.

The experimental results revealed that the concrete type significantly affects the lateral impact resistance. UHPC specimen deform in a more ductile manner, and there is no severe local buckling in the steel tube. UHPC specimen effectively restricts the indentation and local bulking within a highly localized region around the impact point and limits the deformation of the steel tube. UHPC material is easy to mix and demonstrates superior impact resistance under lateral impact load.
