Abstract

Kaempferiae galanga L. is a type of spice and medicinal plant that has been widely recognized by the people of Indonesia. Empirically Kaempferiae galangal L. is used as an appetite enhancer, bacterial infection, cough medicine, dysentery, expectorant, colds, stomach pain and relieves inflammation (inflammation). The benefits of Kaempferiae galanga L. as an anti-inflammatory require development in pharmaceutical dosage forms to increase its use. One of the pharmaceutical preparations that can facilitate its use is ointment. Ointment is generally divided into 4 bases. This study aims to evaluate the physical properties of the ointment with various bases used. The results of this study indicate that the different types of ointment base used in the Kaempferiae galanga L. rhizome extract ointment formulation have an effect on the physical properties of the resulting preparation. The shape, color, pH, and dispersibility of the ointment were different for each type of base used, but the odor and homogeneity of the resulting preparations were the same. The results of the Freeze -Thaw Cycle test showed that the Kaempferiae galanga L rhizome extract ointment with a water-washed base was stable during storage (p value> 0.05).
