“…Several data supporting 2M 1 formation during decompression and heating, as hypothesized by Sassi et al (1994), have been published in the recent literature (Ivaldi et al 2001;Di Vincenzo et al 2001;Palmeri et al 2003;Ferraris et al 2005), which is consistent with the early results by Frey et al (1983).…”

“…Some less-foliated eclogites have inclusions of coesite and coesite pseudomorphs in garnet (Ghiribelli et al, 2002) and were subjected to UHP metamorphism at >850°C and >2.9 GPa, followed by an amphibolite-facies overprint. Palmeri et al (2003Palmeri et al ( , 2007 described prograde, peak and retrograde assemblages of felsic gneiss and mantle-derived garnet peridotites interlayered with coesitebearing eclogite, and documented in situ UHP metamorphism for these rocks: the felsic gneiss garnets contain inclusions of coesite pseudomorphs, and the garnet peridotite mineralogy suggests estimated P-T conditions of 3.2-3.3 GPa and 764-820°C. The UHP event was dated by Grt-Omp-whole rock Sm-Nd and zircon 238 U-206 Pb ages at 500 Ma, and the 40 Ar-39 Ar ages of Ca-amphibole at 490-486 Ma for the amphibolite-facies overprint.…”

“…The Hbl-In curve is after Plyusnina (1982). P-T boxes for mafic, felsic and ultramafic rocks and the prograde path (green dashed arrow) for felsic rocks is from Di Vincenzo et al (1997), Palmeri et al (2003), Palmeri et al (2007). This figure is available in colour online at wileyonlinelibrary.com/journal/gj structural data about the common UHP metamorphism and their exhumation as a coherent tectonic slice.…”
