Ultra-Wide and Flattened Optical Frequency Comb Generation Based on Cascaded Phase Modulator and LiNbO3-MZM Offering Terahertz Bandwidth

Abstract: In this paper, a new technique for generation of ultra-wide and flattened optical frequency comb (OFC) based on serial cascading of a phase modulator and dual-driven Lithium-Niobate Mach Zehnder modulator (DD-LiNbO 3-MZM) is proposed. Over 60 carriers were generated by carefully adjusting the RF switching voltage (RFSV) of the DD-LiNbO 3-MZM and the signal frequency of the sinusoidal wave (RF) source. A low power amplified RF source with a signal driving power of 16.9dBm is applied, and the power of CW laser i… Show more

“…Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) is a promising technology in which the huge bandwidth of an optical fiber is divided in to many non-overlapping high speed channels, each one is called a wavelength (w) channel. [1][2][3][4][5] The emerging technologies in the field of optical communications include optical frequency comb generation, [6][7][8] network security, 9,10 advance modulation techniques, 11 and advance iterative modeling for good quality of service (QoS). [12][13][14][15][16] In optical networking, a connection request arriving to a network from the source node s to the destination node d is called a lightpath.…”

“…Alternative solutions to the commonly used mode-locked lasers method for OFC generation can meet these demands [15]. One promising method uses electro-optic (EO) modulation of the singlefrequency optical field to generate OFC [3], [16]- [18]. Another simpler and cheaper method is to generate OFC via the third-order nonlinearity in microresonators [4], [5], [19]- [25].…”

“…With the rapid exhaustion of accessible transmission bands, the terahertz (0.1–10 THz) band with wider bandwidth and higher frequency has been attracting plentiful interests 1,2 . Photonics‐aided wireless schemes based on intensity‐modulation and direct‐detection (IM/DD) have been broadly investigated, 3–6 which combine the flexibility of wireless communication, the broadband of optical fiber communication and lower complexity compared with coherent detection.…”
