Ultrasensitive Sensor for Uranium Monitoring in Water Ecosystems

Abstract: In the present paper, sensor based on the integrated three-electrode screen-printed system with in situ plated lead film working electrode (SPCE/PbF) was fabricated, and its microscopic and electrochemical characteristics were investigated. For the first time, a new supporting electrolyte composition (CH 3 COONH 4 , CH 3 COOH and NH 4 Cl of pH = 5.9 ± 0.1) has been proposed in order to improve electrochemical response of SPCE/PbF toward U(VI) determination. The differential pulse adsorptive stripping voltammet… Show more

“…To establish the optimal conditions for voltametric determination of U(VI) at the Pb-N-CMK-3/GCE, thoroughgoing studies were carried out. Firstly, in order to improve the electrochemical response of the Pb-N-CMK-3/GCE towards U(VI) determination, the supporting electrolyte composition (CH 3 COONH 4 , CH 3 COOH and NH 4 Cl) was proposed [ 13 ]. Then, the effect of pH buffer over the range from 3.5 to 6.0 was investigated.…”

“…Till now, a number of SV procedures and/or electrode materials for U(VI) determination have been developed [ 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 ]. One of the most popular sensors involved for U(VI) determination is the hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE), which has many advantages, but it is rarely applied because of the volatility and toxicity of mercury [ 10 ].…”

“…In our earlier works, we showed a simple way to amplify the analytical signal of U(VI) and Mo(VI) using lead film modified screen-printed carbon electrodes and a new supporting electrolyte composition (CH 3 COONH 4 , CH 3 COOH, and NH 4 Cl) [ 22 , 23 ]. The lead-coated electrode exhibited interesting characteristics, such as a wide potential window and the ability to operate in a wide range of pH media, lower toxicity and volatility compared with the mercury electrodes, good reproducibility, simple preparation, and a simple way of electrochemical surface renewal [ 24 ].…”

“…Electrochemical techniques are attractive for the detection of trace metal ions due to their high sensitivity, low cost, rapid analysis process and suitability for on-site analysis. [28][29][30][31][32] However, some methods of electrochemical analysis for uranium still suffer from interference from co-existing ions, [33][34][35] such as Cu(II), Pb(II), V(IV), etc. A pretreatment method is also necessary for the preconcentration and purification of uranium before detection.…”
