The electrochemical and photochemical properties of graphene derivatives could be significantly improved by modifications in the chemical structure. Herein, reduced graphene oxide (RGO) was functionalized with l-arginine (l-Arg) by an amidation reaction between the support and amino acid. Deposition of a powerful ligand, l-Arg, on the optically active support generated an effective optical chemosensor for the determination of Cd(II), Co(II), Pb(II), and Cu(II). In addition, l-Arg-RGO was used as an electrode modifier to fabricate l-Arg-RGO modified glassy-carbon electrode (l-Arg-RGO/GCE) to be employed in the selective detection of Pb(II) ions by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DP-ASV). l-Arg-RGO/GCE afforded better results than the bare GCE, RGO/GCE, and l-Arg functionalized graphene quantum dot modified GCE. The nanostructure of RGO, modification by l-Arg, and homogeneous immobilization of resultant nanoparticles at the electrode surface are the reasons for outstanding results. The proposed electrochemical sensor has a wide linear range with a limit of detection equal to 0.06 nM, leading to the easy detection of Pb(II) in the presence of other cations. This research highlighted that RGO as a promising support of optical, and electrochemical sensors could be used in the selective, and sensitive determination of transition metals depends on the nature of the modifier. Moreover, l-Arg as an abundant amino acid deserves to perch on the support for optical, and electrochemical determination of transition metals.

This work presents a comprehensive overview of solidified floating organic drop microextraction, with a particular emphasis on its applications in the analysis of heavy metal ions and different pharmaceutical compounds by sample pretreatment, complexation, and their identification by various analytical techniques. Here, we discussed basic principles, procedures, applications of the technique, and effects of different variables like pH, temperature, stirring rate, extraction time, salts addition, extraction solvent and extraction volume, centrifugation speed, and, vortex time on preconcentration. In brief, the review summarises the various modes of solidified floating organic drop microextraction such as dispersive liquid‐liquid microextraction, ultrasound‐assisted, air‐assisted liquid‐liquid microextraction, and vortex‐assisted solidified floating organic drop microextraction. this review covers the methods combined with analytical techniques such as inductively coupled plasma‐optical emission spectrometry, electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry, flame atomic absorption spectroscopy, graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry, electrothermal vaporization inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, high‐performance liquid chromatography, and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. among these, the incorporation of ultrasonic, vortex, and air agitation improves the dispersion mechanism. The coupling of solidified floating organic drop microextraction with other techniques enhances the selectivity and efficiency of the preconcentration procedure. This review provides a potential overview of the fundamental principles, advancements in various modes, influencing factors, and applications of solidified floating organic drop microextraction, showing its potential for advancements in sample preparation and analytical methodologies across various domains.

Sample preparation is the crucial and most challenging part of analytical chemistry for the speciation of environmental pollutants’ traces. Along with the development of the sample preparation methods, the ionic liquid-based microextraction technique plays an important role. Due to the unequivocally unique “green” characteristic of ionic liquids (ILs), they owe their tunable properties, such as highly selective and high reaction efficiency, reusability, and good thermal stability, to present advancements in the sample preparation process. The ionic liquid-based microextraction techniques miniaturize the sample preparation process. Liquid phase microextraction intermediate solvents, desorption solvent extractants, and mediators have been used. They are quoting the benefits and limitations of each method. A few essential sample preparation methods covered the microextraction technique. In this context, miniaturized microextraction methods have been developed. They are generally used for their unlimited positive features, including easy, simple, and environmentally friendly; they also extract inorganic and organic species with low-cost instrumentation. This review advances the sample preparation process using ILs-based liquid phase microextraction as an intermediate solvent, extractant desorption, and mediator solvents.
