Ultrasonic testing system design for defect visualization of inhomogeneous multi-layered pipes

Abstract: One of the major concerns of pipe equipment used for oil, gas and nuclear power generation, is their failure due to corrosion and abrasion of their inner walls. However, current methods have some problems detecting the inner wall of long and deep pipes, which has become an urgent safety problem. In this paper, we have designed and tested a suitable scanning and imaging method that offers high quality imaging, high efficiency and low cost. We applied the technique on remanufactured ceramic-lined steel composite… Show more

“…Ultrasonic immersion C-scan system provides a planar colour images of the object containing the information about defects and flaws. The C-scan images obtained from immersion scanning not only reveal the internal condition of the materials, but it can also reveal the type and location of flaws present in the sample and its operation is commonly based on pulse echo technique [12][13][14][15][16][17][18]. In this technique, the ultrasonic transducer is excited using the pulser/receiver, and signal is transmitted and received by the same transducer.…”

“…Large amounts of end-of-life products scrapped directly have led to excessive waste of resources over recent years, which can be significantly improved by remanufacturing [1][2][3]. Remanufacturing is an industrial process whereby used products can be restored to useful life [4], including design [5], disassembly [6], cleaning [7], inspection [8], reconditioning [9], etc., among which cleaning is a particularly essential procedure because the cleanliness of cleaned substrate has a significant influence on the following procedures. The ideal state of remanufacturing cleaning is to remove all the contaminants on the surface without affecting the substrate [10].…”
