“…For example, the proliferation of array sector scanners and array parallel scanners in clinical settings depends in part upon wide clinical acceptance of their improved images and ease of operation. It seems likely that this acceptance would have been more rapid if earlier workers had applied these techniques to the heart, where the real time imaging capabilities of arrays are maximally used, rather than to the head [1]. The eventual application of real time sector scanning [2] and parallel scanning [3] to the heart coupled with the more widely accepted use of the cross sectional or B-scan display mode rather than the older A-scan mode has also contributed to the increased popularity of ultrasound imaging.…”
