Ultrasonic treatment of polyacrylic acid sodium/NaA zeolite hybrid membranes for the pervaporation dehydration of ethanol

Abstract: Ultrasonics was used to improve the dispersion of NaA zeolite in polyacrylic acid sodium (PAAS) membranes. The effect of ultrasonication time on the dispersion of NaA zeolite in the membranes, the membrane structure, and performance were investigated. The casting solution and resulting membranes were characterized by viscosity measurement, polarizing optical microscopy (POM), scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction (XRD). With increasing ultrasonication time, the viscosity of the casting solution d… Show more

“…In particular, most present studies have focused on the effect of transfer processes (i.e., sorption and diffusion) on PV performance, while few investigations on membrane surface properties at the molecular scale have been reported. In practice, the surface properties of PV membrane greatly impact the sorption of components 28,29 . Meanwhile, the sorption process determines the swelling degree and free volume of membrane materials, which significantly affect the diffusion behavior of components.…”
