Ultrasonographic features of an intravascular lobular capillary hemangioma originating in the basilic vein: Case report and literature review

Abstract: Intravascular lobular capillary hemangioma (ILCH) is a rare variant of pyogenic granuloma, which develops within the lumen of a blood vessel. Here, we report the case of a 38-yearold male presenting with a mobile, incompressible, nonpulsatile nodule in the superficial fascia of the forearm. A first ultrasonographic examination diagnosed the mass as intravascular thrombosis with partial recanalization. Three months later, a second ultrasonographic examination concluded to the existence of an intravascular tumor… Show more

“…The scarcity of documented cases underscores the unique nature of ILCHs. Although instances of IVLCHs are not confined to any specific racial group, they have been observed to be slightly more prevalent among women, children, and young adults [ 1 , 2 , 26 ].…”

“…Various imaging techniques aid in ILCH diagnosis, including ultrasound, MRI, and CT [ 6 , 20 , 25 ]. Ultrasound offers insights into vascular patterns, while MRI and CT provide anatomical details for surgical planning [ 2 ]. However, histopathological examination remains essential for definitive diagnosis.…”

“…PG is also known as intravascular lobular capillary hemangioma (ILCH), as it is considered a benign vascular tumor that is usually located within the blood vessels of the head, neck and upper extremities [41][42][43]. In PG, excessive growth of vascular tissues is observed towards the interior of the vessel in addition to the invasion of surrounding tissues.…”

“…Histologically, ILCH exhibits a distinctive lobular architecture marked by a nonstratified endothelium that forms capillaries within an edematous fibromyxoid stroma, these lobes are separated by venular structures. Characteristic features, such as capillary-sized vessels and inter-endothelial contacts, distinguish ILCH PG is also known as intravascular lobular capillary hemangioma (ILCH), as it is considered a benign vascular tumor that is usually located within the blood vessels of the head, neck and upper extremities [41][42][43].
