“…Ultrasonographic prostatic measurements are more accurate and reliable than radiologic ones because the margins of the prostate are better outlined, and because there is no magnification effect, as opposed to radiology (Atalan et al., ). However, although ultrasonography of the prostate gland is supposed to be easy compared with other intra‐abdominal organs (Nyland et al., ; Cruz‐Arambulo and Wrigley, ), our results show between‐day and within‐day coefficient of variations being to reach 11.5% for the less‐trained observer. Standard deviation values presented in Table were rather low in comparison with the mean values (Table ), suggesting little intra‐observer variation; however, data show significant differences between the three observers for the majority of the measurements (Table ).…”

“…It is an encapsulated, bilobed, and bilaterally symmetrical ovoid gland, located caudal to the bladder ( Vesica urinaria ), encircling the proximal ( Pars prostatica ) urethra ( Urethra masculina ). Most prostatic diseases in dogs are associated with prostatomegaly (Feeney et al., ; Barsanti and Finco, ; Cruz‐Arambulo and Wrigley, ). There are several clinical methods to evaluate prostate size in the dog, including rectal palpation, radiography, transabdominal ultrasonography (Cartee and Rowles, ; Blum et al., ; Vilman et al., ; Ruel et al., ), transrectal ultrasonography (Bartsch et al., ; Hastak et al., ), computed tomography (CT) (Peeling and Griffiths, ) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) (Rahmouni et al., ).…”

“…Previamente ao exame ultrasonográfico, foi realizada uma tricotomia na região lateral do abdômen, caudal a última costela esquerda, e no lado direito a partir do 11 o espaço intercostal (Nyland et al 2005), estendendo-se 1,5cm caudalmente à 13 a costela (Gaschen et al 2000). O mesmo procedimento foi realizado na região ventral do abdômen para facilitar a visualização ultrasonográfica da bexiga (Cruz-Arambulo & Wrigley 2003 …”

“…Acute abdomen syndrome is a clinical syndrome characterized by the sudden onset of severe abdominal pain accompanied by signs and symptoms of abdominal involvement [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]. Acute abdomen syndrome may be associated with a wide variety of disease processes, ranging from self-limiting conditions to surgical emergencies.…”

“…Abdominal ultrasonography (US) is a valuable procedure for the diagnosis of a wide range of acute abdomen diseases [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 6 , 8 ]. Ultrasound findings of a target-like mass of concentric hyperechoic and hypoechoic rings is diagnostic of intestinal intussusception in dogs and cats [ 9 , 10 ].…”
