“…Power Doppler sonography findings show the mass as a hypervascular one characterized by intermediateimpedance arterial flow. MRI findings show the ectopic thymus as a homogenous mass with signal intensity almost equal to that of muscle on a T1-weighted image and greater than that of muscle on a T2-weighted image, just like the mediastinal thymus [6,7]. Similar findings were obtained in this case as well, and it appeared that the diagnosis of ectopic thymus was plausible from the findings of characteristic images and the location of the tumor even without diagnosis by biopsy.…”

“…8,9,21 The Doppler patterns of normal thymic tissue have been described in 2 cases of aberrant cervical thymus, but without a confident differential diagnosis. 22,23 Further investigation, including additional imaging and/or needle biopsy, is rarely indicated unless the mass presents with a suspicious appearance.…”

“…Other potentially useful features observed in our patient were angulated edges and molding of the lesion over adjacent tissues, reflecting its pliability. Parallel echogenic septa, described previously by Cacciaguerra et al, 1 were also present in our case and may be 1 of the gray-scale findings peculiar to this type of tissue. Perhaps the most useful sonographic finding in our case was the isoechogenicity of the lesion relative to the normal mediastinal thymus gland.…”

“…However, specific gray-scale and color Doppler sonographic findings have been described in only 1 patient with ectopic thymus. 1 There are only a few reports of the MRI appearance of the ectopic thymus gland in the cervical region.…”
