“…Although Robertson and Pickett interpret this ensemble as a subduction mélange, there are no ultramafics or gabbros in it. More significantly, they seem unaware that Caridroit et al (1997) found a most remarkable association of fossils in this mixture. In a slightly manganiferous micrite with radiolarites they identified, in addition, conodonts, foraminifera, ostracoda and even vertebrate microremains all of which can be dated to the uppermost Lower Tournaisian (Hastarian).…”

“…The Tavas is the lowermost of the Lycian Nappes. Since these nappes were stripped off the northern parts of the Menderes-Taurus Block, the Carboniferous deep-sea rocks must have been somehow associated with those described by Caridroit et al (1997) and Robertson and Pickett (2000). They consist of turbidites, limestone blocks, debris flows and black radiolarites with mafic volcanic rocks exactly as in Karaburun, but they are younger, Middle to Lower Visean.…”

“…Long (1990) included Siamodus in Coronodontida, a Late Devonian group comprising two other genera, Diademodus and Coronodus, characterized by multicuspidate teeth with diverging cusps (Zangerl, 1981). One coronodontid tooth is recorded in the lower Tournaisian from Turkey (Caridroit et al, 1997), and Coronodontidae are recorded in Carboniferous sequences (Cappetta et al, 1993).…”

“…The Mississippian limestones are widespread in Turkey (e.g., Çatal et al 1978, Lys 1988, Leven & Okay 1996, Görür et al 1997, Kalvoda 2003. The Viséan foraminifers and algae are relatively well-known in southern Turkey (Güvenç 1965, Altýner 1981, Altýner & Özgül 2001, Okuyucu & Vachard 2006, Göncüoðlu et al 2007) but their knowledge remains poor in central and northern Turkey (Kaya & Mamet 1971;Dil 1975Dil , 1977Dil et al 1977;Caridroit et al 1997;Pille et al 2010).…”
