Uncertainty assessment of a prototype of multilateration coordinate measurement system

Abstract: Large Volume Metrology is essential to many high value industries to go towards the factory of the future, but also to many science facilities for fine alignment of large structures. In this context, we have developed a multilateration coordinate measurement system, traceable to SI metre, and suitable for outdoor measurements or industrial environments. It is based on a high accuracy absolute distance meter developed in-house and shared between several measurement heads by fibre-optic links. Thus, from these m… Show more

“…This instrument is a prototype developed by CNAM. In controlled environments, the uncertainty of the distance measurement is about 5 um (Guillory et al 2020b;. However, under the environmental conditions of the measurement campaign at GOW, the uncertainties on the measured distances were larger.…”

“…A detailed analysis of this multilateration system has demonstrated, indoors with an air refractive index well assessed, an uncertainty around 5 µm (k = 1) on the distance measurements for a range of operation of 20 m when the targets are glass spheres (Guillory et al 2022) and of at least 100 m when the targets are corner cubes (Guillory et al 2020). At the end, the propagation of the uncertainties into the coordinates of the measured positions leads to uncertainties up to 25 µm (k = 1) with optimised locations of the heads relative to the targets.…”

“…Furthermore, the dome wall is equipped with nine interoperable 1.5" drift nests, which magnetically support both reference markers for photogrammetric 5 th Joint International Symposium on Deformation Monitoring (JISDM), 20-22 June 2022, Valencia, Spain 2022, Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València systems and corner cube reflectors for multi-lateration coordinate measurement systems (Guillory et al, 2020) and for polar measurement systems such as laser trackers or total stations (Lösler et al, 2018). The interoperability facilitates the integration of the photogrammetric reference frame into the station survey network later on.…”
