Uncertainty Evaluation in Multistage Assembly Process Based on Enhanced OOPN

Abstract: This study investigated the uncertainty of the multistage assembly process from the viewpoint of a stream of defects in the product assembly process. The vulnerable spots were analyzed and the fluctuations were controlled during this process. An uncertainty evaluation model was developed for the assembly process on the basis of an object-oriented Petri net (OOPN) by replacing its transition function with a fitted defect changing function. The definition of entropy in physics was applied to characterize the unc… Show more

“…With the development of manufacturing industry and increasing customer's demand, manufacturers are facing the challenge of improving the reliability and diversity of products [1,2]. Assembly process is one of the most important parts during the manufacturing cycle and the quality of products is highly influenced by the assembly process due to the complexity in assembly manufacturing system [3,4]. Latent defects in assembly process are easily triggered to dominant defects when environment conditions change, which could lead to the phenomenon that defect emergence often breaks out.…”

“…A defect that is either too small or is located in a position that does not cause an immediate failure is called a latent defect. A latent defect may or may not cause failure in the field, depending on the operation time, environmental condition and processes [3].…”
