Uncertainty Management Theory

Abstract: Uncertainty management theory provides principles to understand the role of information‐seeking and information‐avoiding in a variety of interpersonal communication contexts. Research framed with uncertainty management theory seeks to understand how individuals use communication to cope with the various questions encountered on a daily basis. Scholars using uncertainty management theory focus on how people appraise uncertainty and the impact that appraisal has on communication strategies.
