“…So the article has formed the basis of a number of subsequent influential literature reviews, conceptual contributions, and methodological and empirical works; drawing from it, scholars have differentiated intuition from related constructs (Hodgkinson et al, 2008(Hodgkinson et al, , 2009aSadler-Smith, 2010, 2015Salas et al, 2010;Blume and Covin, 2011;Akinci and Sadler-Smith, 2012, 2013, 2020Baldacchino, 2013Baldacchino, , 2019Baldacchino et al, 2015;Healey et al, 2015;Pratt and Crosina, 2016;Calabretta et al, 2017;Okoli et al, 2021;Sadler-Smith et al, 2021). “…While being aware of the issues related to reverse inference, we suggest the following design cognition similarities between genders: Significant higher frequency band power in the open sketching stage for both genders on the aggregate level were measured, for alpha 2 and beta bands, meaning that from this study open design sketching is the most distinguishable design activity from problem-solving, in particular for these frequency bands. Sketching relevance to designing has been studied and identified (Goldschmidt, 1997; Scrivener et al , 2000; Kavakli and Gero, 2001; Bilda et al , 2006; Cash and Maier, 2021). This is consistent with higher brain activity reported in previous studies for mechanical engineers and industrial designers (Vieira et al , 2020 b ), and mechanical engineers and architects (Vieira et al , 2019 b ).…”

“…Design representation, i.e., representing design information or knowledge as notional objects, their relationships and structure in an abstract and graphical form, is a common and essential task in design processes (Shah and Wilson, 1989). Design representation facilitates designers' learning, analyses, communication, conceptualization, cognition and redesign of design artifacts (Cash and Maier, 2021). Conventional design representation techniques (examples in Fig.…”
