The smart training technologies include several parts. Their joint use allows making students of technical higher educational institutions interested in studying history. This article describes the experience of involving students of a construction university in research activities in history classes, when studying the topic of the Great Patriotic War. The first stage of the work involves the study of the student’s historical memory, the students’ perceptions of this war through direct communication of the professor with students, the integrated use of sociological, linguistic, pedagogical, psychological methods. In the framework of a continuous survey of 346 students, an expressed emotional coloring of the image of war in the student consciousness and solidarity of students in the need to preserve the memory of the war were revealed. Students classified the written and oral stories of the contemporaries, primarily their relatives, as the most reliable sources on the history of the war. Given the influence of the family war memory, professors form students' interest in research activities. At the next stage, an individual strategy for writing a family history of wartime is developed for each student; recommendations are given on working with databases, information available on the Internet, family and state archives, libraries.

Preserving the theme of victimization as a pivotal in China’s remembering of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre serves as the main symbol of traumatic memory in China. The Nanjing Massacre plays a big role in the Chinese people’s consciousness and is considered as one of the most debated historical issues between China and Japan. Differences over war memory have negatively impacted Sino-Japanese relations for many decades. But in China, the Nanjing Massacre is regarded as a national trauma that will never be forgotten. This research is aimed to analyze the role of the Memorial Hall of the Victims in the Nanjing Massacre in the construction of attitudes toward Japan and Japanese society in China. And answer what kind of the historical representation of the Nanjing Massacre are shaped by the Memorial Hall? Does the Memorial Hall activate the emotional perception of history? Does it initiate advance reconciliation among former enemies, or, in contrast, deteriorate social reconciliation?

The language of shared heritage for humanity holds a central position within UNESCO's World Heritage. However, the “Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution” as World Heritage is primarily Japan's national project for globalizing a glorious historical narrative of Meiji Japan. While this national nostalgia matches the contemporary political discourse of overcoming domestic and international challenges in twenty-first century Japan, it also encourages people to forget alternative perspectives related to Korean memories of forced labor, colonialism, and war. Ministry officials and cultural council members expressed concerns over possible critical reactions from South Korea, but the Japanese government accelerated its campaign for UNESCO's World Heritage designation and achieved its objective in 2015. Why did the Japanese government take this step despite the alarming voices within Japan? This paper uncovers the process in which Japan's industrial heritage was constructed and promoted as World Heritage. It points to the role of Japanese and Western heritage experts in a newly established committee outside the conventional procedure for Japan's World Heritage nomination and concludes that Japan's heritage diplomacy pushes alternative historical narratives into oblivion.
